Once the answer has been accepted the question is closed for the reason 'The question has been answered the right answer has been accepted' This shows other users that it has already had an answer, which serves one of two purposes: The first of these is to prevent further answers, since no one will need to answer it further, keeping the site neater. The second of these is that if someone is looking for answers to the same question, if they see that the answer has been accepted, they can find that there is an answer to their question. Closing a question has no effect on the karma of anyone, how could it be considered to be karma farming? |

We are closing accepted answers due to a recent spike in people spamming questions that have already accepted an answer. There is no connection with closing questions and karma farming. People cannot gain karma for doing that. |
