If someone gives me a good reason why this makes any sense, I'd be appreciative.

It's just due to the size and speed of a flash drive which makes them more expensive. I actually saw an offer somewhere recently where they were selling 64GB flash drives from something like £20 ($30).

all new stuff is goingto be limited to 32 GB drive space, win8 is cloud based there is no need for storage space .I can speak for all new intel base stuff but tablets will all be 32 MB drives ..
in the near future there will be no need for sorage space in a computing device everything will be on the cloud and the aps to run program you pay per use are very tiny most everything runs directly with a browser ..
fact is wi8 in the its system requirements dont list a drive size at all just processor and memmory
seems things are goingto get pretty limiting for choice as far as computers go soon manufatures are dropping off like flys Toshiba was first siting the inability to get the parts required to produce the new product ..

If you know where to look, actually it's less expensive: http://goo.gl/KruW8. If it's more expensive, you're paying for the convenience instead of dragging a whole hard drive with you, you can just put a flash drive in your pocket and be done.
