Im looking to buy a computer. I would like to know the pros and cons of an all-in-one computer and a desktop tower. Which would generate more heat inside and which will last me a longer period of time based on average usage?

All in one, is more compact, less cooling, parts are reconfigurable, but more limited, Towers take up more space, more room on the inside, better cooling, more expandable, multiple HDDs and PCI slots and you can build it yourself which makes it cheaper and then you know what's in it.

I would suggest building your own, because you can generally build it cheaper (if you don't include Windows), and it would be much faster and more customizable. The only all in one PC that I would (and have gotten) is the iMac.

It really depends on what you want to do. If you are not a high tech person, and you don't want to build your own, then I wouldn't recommend it. Unless you need to power. I am guessing you don't need power, because you haven't suggested it, but a All in One for many people would be great. An iMac is a very popular computer, and it's all in one. Various questions could decide if you should get a all in one, or a tower.
If you don't have a monitor already, then I would suggest getting a All in one. All in ones of course already have a monitor with them. So you will not need to pay another couple hundred dollars for a new monitor. But if you already do have one, depending on if you want to continue to use it and getting a tower, you sell it to help pay for the All in one.
If you want to just do basic web browsing, then a All in one computer would be great for you, because they certainly are more than powerful for web browsing, and basic video editing in Windows Movie Maker. However, if you wanna play video games, or do higher video editing, then you might want to buy a tower PC.
