My Lenovo g530 just died on me, and I have the budget of about 800 dollars or less. I need a laptop that can take beating, since I take it to school every day (this lenovo was great btw). School requires a good enough pc that can be used for video editing. in short: durable (hopefully metal), good enough for editing (i3 or i5) Any recommendations?

I agree lenovo is great!
I really like the thinkpad line, look for the T series I just got a T530 fully loaded, cost above your price range but you can get a t530 or 430 within your price range.
Thinkpad's are business quality laptops so you are trully getting a well built computer.
One thing to conciser getting is a docking station if the laptop allows for it.

You could get a MacBook Air refurb if you wanted. With a little bit more than $800 you can get a pretty good speced one! http://store.apple.com/us/product/FC969LL/A?fnode=0a2118df35f5f863305754e8c9c7873f1edf9a581d860834fa253d553105c8cee6b5112f569abedf331407e7c52f46d7 Now I don't know much about video editing and you would know better than me most likely when it comes to specs needed... :)
I would recommend either a Sony, Lenovo, or ASUS. Normally if you buy any of those, you are pretty much set. They offer great computers! I wouldn't go with Dell, HP, or Acer since you want a quality computer that is durable. Among my peers at school, these are the brands that I here provide the most trouble.
That is why I only recommend Sony, Lenovo, ASUS, and Apple! :)

I have an Acer Notebook which is running on win 7. I think that Acer are the best laptops brand, they make really good computers. You can maybe try Acer Timeline. Check reviews.cnet.com it has a comprehensive list of laptops.
