Google Wave is really what you make of it. As a writer, I use it daily to collaborate on projects with my colleagues. I also keep track of my monthly topics, etc. in a monthly Wave for invoicing purposes.

As for an average user? Well, outside of my work, I use it to make lists -- especially with my significant other! We can easily access a Wave to check things off and whatnot, no matter what computer/device we have access to. Right now, my favorite non-business Wave is one with a massive list of Movies/TV Series I MUST watch -- it's long! :)
