I am writing my final research paper for my English class. We have to write about the Internet and I am focusing on network security/hacking. So far I could only come up with tips on how to stay safe(r) and the history of hacking but I am unsure if that will be enough. Anyone have any other ideas of things I should look into?

Emphasize somewhere that total security is not truly possible. Before you even turn on a computer or any device it has the risk of being compromised (in this case physically). Also be sure to mention that a lot of security failures are actually the user's fault, something that is very often forgotten when discussing security.

What about the real world impact of hacking and DDoS attacks on the economy, with figures. Also, perhaps you could go into more detail about how advanced viruses and malware are getting and the greater difficulty in detecting these (thanks to metamorphic and polymorphic programming techniques and such)
I hope this helps you in your research paper! :)
