I don't believe in the real existence of any existing concept of deity, and think it's unlikely that any other type of deity exists.

The christian/muslim/jewish god (all the same) are just like Santa Claus, and I openly criticize anyone who believes in that god, unless it's an elderly person. In that case, is not worth confusing their minds when they're so close to "Heaven". Hindus disgust me, because they divide people into categories from birth.

Don't say I'm being offensive, because every time I hear someone saying that he/she believes in God, I feel like Humanity itself was offended.

The only religion I respect is buddhism, because they accept reality. However, I can't call myself a buddhist, due to my lack of serenity and capacity of eating meat and kill insects. I try to follow the Zen philosophy as much as I can, anyway.

Thank you very much. I personally feel very proud of this little piece of text I just wrote. I shall copy and paste it to my computer and maybe, if God lets me, make it into a blog post! Muahaha!

Actually, the Christitan God is not the same as the Muslim god, although they may like to assume so. The Christian God is a triune God, one being, but 3 parts (Father, Son, Spirit). The Muslim god, however, is a one part deity. The Christian Bible even suggests that God is triune, since the first time the word "God" is used in the Bible (Gen 1:1), the original wording was the word "Elohim", which literally is translated as "Gods".

Also, the Muslim god does not have the same views as the Christian God. The Muslim god, by some, has been described as murderous and bloodthirsty. The Christian God is the polar opposite. Christians believe that our God is one who does all things for the better of us, becuase, since he is both Omniscient (all-knowing), and Omni-Benificent (all-good).

I believe in God, and I'm not afraid to be criticized for it. People don't all believe in the same God as I do, some no deity at all, and I respect that, because I think for the sake of knowledge you should hear as many points of view as possible. So why criticize when you can learn instead?

I don't know if this has touched you or anything, but if you DO want to follow my advice and learn instead of criticize, I would be glad to talk to you about my faith and answer any questions you might have.

God Bless :)

No - At least, not as it is understood.

The truth is that none of us were here at the creation of the universe, and that was before we had recording technology; so we can't be sure. Yet.

The only way to know for sure would be to send a camera out to the edge of the universe, where light from the big bang hasn't reached yet, and point that camera back at the origin point. Unfortunately, it would have to travel at many times the speed of light to get there and send back its results before the human race becomes extinct.

I don't believe in God because:

  • There are so many religions in the world. All of them are massively outnumbered; there is no one clear winner. No one religion is obviously the right one.
  • Religion spreads primarily geographically, meaning that each religion mostly spreads near its epicenter. This effect has been reduced as international travel has become more common, which tells me religion primarily propagates through people talking to each other.
  • If you look at the religions of the ancient times, for example Egypt and Greece, then contemporary times, and then modern times, a pattern emerges. That pattern makes it obvious we never knew what we were talking about. Initially, the forces of nature were gods, and they were many. Then we had gods that represented the forces of nature, and they were fewer. Then we concentrated the forces of nature into a single god, and called it God. Even now, there is a growing number of people who openly admit we don't believe in any gods. As science advances, religion recedes back into the prehistoric superstition from whence it came. Good riddance.
  • Religion is responsible for more evil, war, and genocide than any other cause. Just look at Germany in WW2, Somalia, and Dubya in the Middle East. Primarily this behavior comes from any form of fundementalism. Islamic fundementalists give us Jihad and terrorist attacks. Christian fundementalism gives us cults and other terrorist attacks. Catholic fundementalism gave us the Crusades. There is a pattern: Religion kills people. What kind of a way is that to live?
  • Nobody can tell you what your morals are. You should decide those for yourself. Other people can only tell you their morals, not yours. Unfortunately, our morals are based on our exposure to society, and society's morals are based on religion; so there's really no getting away from that one.
  • Generally, a god-centric religion defies the laws of science in general and physics in specific. Therefore, science makes more sense based on our current understanding of how the forces of nature work.

Personally, I believe the storyline explained in God's Debris; though I don't form a religion around it. I just think that every object has a minute gravity field and is therefore attracted in a miniscule capacity to every other object in the universe. Therefore, given infinite time, all objects will move toward each other toward a common center. Eventually they collide and form asteroid and debris fields.

Later, they run out of kinetic energy and finally arrive at the same place and stop moving around so much. The supermassive gravity of all mass in the universe causes the "stuff" to become so supermassive and dense that it goes ultra-uber-super-nova. And then we get a Big Bang. But every object in the universe has some gravity, so it just loops and loops and loops.

It's a pattern. It's happened for all time, and it will continue to happen for all time. Time is infinite. Time is timeless. Time reaches to infinity and back again. But most people can't understand infinity, much less infinite time.

Think about that. Read the book. It makes sense.

As far as God is concerned, gods were invented to explain that which we could not explain, and to blame for that which we did not want to be accountable. From there, the story has merely evolved along thousands of different paths; thus today's thousands of different religions. The ones that have the best story, the ones that make peoples' lives better, are the ones that have succeeded the most.

I agree. Also re-posted. It's not my business, but maybe you should keep it shorter. Like mine, a bit earlier.

(Aug 15 '10 at 19:28) BrunoMCP BrunoMCP's gravatar image

Shortening my answer would inevitably cause content loss. If I don't fully explain my position, how can I justify arguing against religion? Especially when religion has such ample and plentiful argument on its side? :)

(Aug 15 '10 at 19:30) tsilb tsilb's gravatar image

You don't need and shouldn't make it too complex because religious people might not understand, and even if they do, they won't care.

Well I could just say "I don't believe in God because it doesn't make sense to", but that doesn't sound like I put much thought into it, and therefore is a weak position. This way I have backing.

So what's your religion? Religious people that don't believe in god? It seems you have a wide definition for religion.

Yes, anyone who doesn't is a fool! As the great Blaise Pascal stated: "God is a reasonable bet; it's worthwhile to assume that God exists. If He does, then we win all; if He does not, we lose nothing."

Pascal seems to be a pretty sarcastic fellow.

(Aug 15 '10 at 19:19) BrunoMCP BrunoMCP's gravatar image

But how can you be sure that the God YOU believe in is the one true god? Maybe god exists, but not the Christian god. If that's the case then you do lose.

I heard you guys have a pretty wild story, but it's no match for Scientology's.

(Aug 15 '10 at 19:21) BrunoMCP BrunoMCP's gravatar image

Waitaminute, does that mean that joining the mormon church grants automatic Sainthood, or is the religion just poorly named?

(Aug 15 '10 at 19:25) tsilb tsilb's gravatar image

No. The full name of my church is "The Church of Jesus Christ Of Latter-Day Saints"

(Aug 15 '10 at 20:06) AndrewE AndrewE's gravatar image

You call it "a church". Does that mean Mormons are a kind of Christians? Someone once told me they're a different religion, but I was not convinced. Religion or doctrine?

(Aug 15 '10 at 21:34) BrunoMCP BrunoMCP's gravatar image

We do believe in Jesus Christ. So we are Christians. There is a common mis-conception that we are a "cult" which we are not.

(Aug 15 '10 at 21:44) AndrewE AndrewE's gravatar image

The only difference between a religion and a cult is the amount of followers, so you're not a cult.

All religions are cults. Some are just popular enough that it gets overlooked.

I am Christian and actually Christianity isn't a religion but a relationship with Jesus Christ. Grated it is a religion but more importantly about your relationship. Anyone who doesn't believe in god just doesn't but they will do them and whatever they believe in because I could give two in the bush, if that makes any sense......

Yes, NOT that angry God that will allow people in Hell for believing something different, for what I believe you cannot believe anything you wish even nothing and you will be fine as it does not matter. There is no elitist group here where you have to believe their way or else, that does not make any sense nor is it fair.

Your answer is not exactly clear... Damn, your answer is completely messed up. Are you a believer who is not religious, or what? You're not christian or muslim, that's for sure...

(Aug 15 '10 at 21:57) BrunoMCP BrunoMCP's gravatar image

My answer is not complete.

I believe in two Gods that are about kindness and love, NO hate, No fear, No Sin, No telling me how to live my life, I am good because I want to be, that is who I am, one can believe or not it does not matter. I have no set religion.

(Aug 15 '10 at 22:02) Xiro Xiro's gravatar image

I believe in God, but here's my theory. Whether or not you believe in God our society bases everything on reference points and without understand our past (right or wrong) we cannot more forward.
