Hi Guys, Please help! HP DV 6 laptop suddenly won't boot after recent windows update (coincidence?) It tries briefly to fire up with fan noise but screen stays blank and left with single flash on CapsLock. It did fire up unexpectedly after I played with RAM and battery but then did another windows update and would not fire up the next day. Tried removing CMOS battery and RAM plus hold down power button for 15 seconds as recommended by my son, it worked...but not all icons appeared in system tray so rebooted...but it didn't start again, same as before. Tried all above again but without success! Also tried holding Esc and power button together when switching on but failed too!!!
anything else I can try?
Many thanks Taz

There is a problem with the CPU itself. Something is not working right on it. Sometimes you might be able to boot right into the Desktop itself. If the computer is still under warranty have the cpu replace if it can be done. Otherwise you might have to find a replacement CPU in order to fix the problem. I had two computers already die the same fate. Because of the fans themselves were no longer working ans sure enough damage the CPU beyond repair.Or beyond replacing them. Since the CPU that I had were no longer being made for either of the models that I have had.

The issue you described is due to a chipset issue. I made a video detailing how to reflow it and fix the issue
https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=76uuDJ-qQBs#t=548s (link will start the video at the reflow portion) but if you look at the beginning of the video, the DV4 has the same issue https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=76uuDJ-qQBs
here is another reflowing the dv6
Most laptops made by HP have chipset issues (mainly due to their crappy cooling designs where if you do not frequently clean the heatsink, it will fail)
