Do you drive manual or know how to? now a days, all i see are sportronic shift pedals and automatics. seems like no one is driving manual anymore. |

Most cars driven within the UK are manual, as are many cars driven throughout Europe, and I doubt they'll die out as most driving tests taken within the UK are testing the learning driver's ability to drive in a car with manual transmission, not automatic. They may be dying out in certain areas of America, but globally, I doubt the manual car will die out any time soon. |

In America I would say that they are dieing out. I know for a fact that in Germany most cars are manual. In fact you have to do a certain percentage (can't remember how much) of drivers school with a manual transmission. After you reach the minimum driving hours in a manual you have the option to finish drivers school in an automatic, but it costs more and it gets noted on your drivers license. With drivers school costing (depending on where you live) €1600 and up and manual cars being cheaper, most people finish drivers school with a manual transmission and also drive a manual transmission afterward. As Maeurd said it's the same over there and I'm sure it's the same all over (the rest of) Europe. |

not hear in Australia car enthusiasts still appreciate the manual, better economy and more response, i cant think of why not to have a manual. |

I chose a manual in my Vette because that the only way to own a sports car. I my Honda Insight Gen2 I opted for the manual to maximize fuel economy. Currently 72 MPG. Sadly you are correct, manual is now considered an option if available at all?? |

i dont think they are dying. nor will ever die. MANY street racers (although it is illegal) use manual. same with all other high speed driver. |
|
They are not going to die at any point in the future, because people with fast and luxury cars are stuck with manual transmission. Try drifting with an automatic... |

Hardcore car nerds and mechanics alike prefer a good 'ol manual transmission. For one: if you have a sports car it gives you a better connection to the car - some people like to be in complete control of every aspect of their car. Two: Manuals are cheaper to service, replace, and buy. A manual vehicle costs a few thousand dollars less, gets better fuel economy, and is easier to perform maintenance on. |

Automatic's will inevitably get more popular due to the fact that alot of people don't really care for driving and would rather an easier alternative I’d also expect fuel economy in automatics to improve in the future but Manuals will never die even if they become less popular, manuals are better but may become unnecessary for the average driver. |
I drive a manual and so do most of my friends right here in michigan. manual cars will never die out. most race cars are manual also
