Ah, yes, computers with "problems". I loved those, they keeped crashing so I could be frustrated.

So, what do you hate about computers?

What i don't like about computers is when the hard drive randomly starts reading constantly for no apparent reason.

  1. People. Most people who operate computers seem to become more subliterate (or less literate, rather) by the day.
  2. Programming languages. As much as I love C, the influence that subliterate people are having on it over time (eg. the new C standard) will lead to it becoming ever more obscure and inconsistent.
  3. Trends in computer related technology seem to take the technology to new heights of obscurity. For example, the pentium 4 architecture (where speed was focussed on ahead of multitasking), solid state drives (where speed is being focussed on ahead of the ability to defragment and progress in RAM which is even faster), USB (a restrictive form of the old serial interface) and the new C standard.
  4. Benchmarks, which are compiled using compilers that typically favour the hardware they're developed using (or in the case of the intel compiler, intel hardware). ... I could rave on indefinitely in relation to this topic, but I'll end it here.

Then there are people from school, I was talking with my IS (IT/ICT etc.) teacher and they said 10 computers have been broken in the last month!

Something works fine on one computer but for no obvious reason it seems to fail miserably on another.

I don't "hate" anything about computers, but they can be a source of frustration from time to time -- sometimes it's the hardware or software, sometimes it's a Problem (that) Exists Between Keyboard and Chair (PEBCAK) and if I'm the one sitting in the chair, that's even more frustrating. I'm a geek, afterall, so I'm supposed to know better! :)
