After being in the Apple store with my iPhone answering questions on this site, and I wondered. Should OSQA (the code that runs this site), or this site have a mobile version. Cause it was a little bit of a trouble to answer questions on an iPhone. I know this is a beta, but something to keep in mind for later thought.

If you like the idea, please support it by voting the idea up here and on the platform's site.

Update (1): I would like to inform you people that the issue/feature is the top voted feature wanted. Thanks for the help. Hope OSQA gets this feature. Keep it up

I'm sure a simple app with infrequent ads for the iPad/phone isn't such a tall order!

I said mobile version of the site and not an app because we want a neutral service that can be used in many sites that use the OSQA platform (not a specific app that only works on one site). Also with the cost of having the availability of developing an app (Apple). Also, we want the platform to be used in many devices, Android, iPhone, Symbian, etc.

Kevin, if I were you, I'd submit a feature request on http://jira.osqa.net/ and see how many people vote for it. I'm totally with you, BTW. Not sure how well it works on the iPad, either.

It worked well on the ipad with its large screen when I tested it while bing in the apple store, but with the small screen on an iPhone, it kept jumping up and down of the page.

yep, I submitted that. You know how much it was a pain to see what you were touch typing.

(May 31 '10 at 00:05) kevin ♦♦ kevin's gravatar image

So by "mobile" you meant you want a better way to input text from a mobile device? Like ink/touch support?

(May 31 '10 at 00:06) tsilb tsilb's gravatar image

Just a separate layout of the site for mobile devices

(May 31 '10 at 00:07) kevin ♦♦ kevin's gravatar image

I voted. :)

The problem, of course, is that mobile devices support a wide variety of resolutions. What resolution should mobile be optimized for? :) Just something to keep in mind as you track your jira bug.

Chris, I noticed some serious issues with the site on my iPad. If I had a page that in order to get to the bottom you have to scroll, it would move to the top of the page when you trying to leave a comment. Although, if you did not have to scroll down it would not have that issue.

I think there should be, but not just an iPhone version, remember not all of us have or want an iPhone but have smartphones that we use on the web.

I'm also having issues posting from my iPad. It jumps to the top of the page every time I type a character.

Yes, it seems to be a bug. I'm going to test the iPhone to see if it behaves in the same way.

It is also a problem with the iPhone

(May 31 '10 at 14:14) kevin ♦♦ kevin's gravatar image

My iPod touch doesn't jump to thetop like that. But there isa HUGE delay between each key press. I think it's the preview feature causing that problem.

There are definitely issues when trying to post on the iPad. You cannot see what you are typing because it defaults to the top of the post when the keyboard appears. I assume the same occurs on the iPhone. I wonder if other "smart" phones have this problem? An adjusted version needs to be developed to eliminate this problem.

I doubt an app of the service cause there is a lot of sites that has to run on their code. More like an mobile web page of the service.

(May 31 '10 at 18:00) kevin ♦♦ kevin's gravatar image

Why doubt an app? If it all runs off the same platform, then accessing it will be the same for every site.
