Try 000webhost.com. They'll give you free hosting with FTP, PHP and mySQL. The only downside is that you have to register your domain elsewhere unless you want a subdomain. I recommend 1and1.com for this because they are cheap.

0fees.net also works. You can get a free domain with co.cc.

You need the following:

  • Access (an account or ownership) to a server
  • A Web server on the server (e.g. Apache or IIS)
  • An FTP server on the server (Google)
  • A name server
  • A domain name

You can purchase packages with everything packed together from many Web hosters. I have used 1and1 with success. There are also DreamHost and GoDaddy which are popular.

It is very unlikely you will be able to host your site for free (especially if you want a dot-com domain name), so be ready to pull out your wallet.

If you want a quick-and-easy way to make a Web site, you can use Google Sites. Although it may not provide you with the FTP access and iWeb compatibility you are looking for, it should be simple enough for any computer user to create their own Web site.

Go to this after you register your domain (can take up to a week). Where it says the stuff about subdomains, put in your own domain that you purchased earlier.

1and1 is the cheapest for domain names. $7 bucks a year.

You can get a domain with Godaddy http://is.gd/cG2uG and you get a discount is you use coupon code "chris" without quotes. It's really easy. They send you emails and stuff only the way setting it up. Theres also good videos on youtube how to do it.
