For the most part, we or somebody we know has downloaded torrent files such as music, movie, computer software, and or video games illegally using various P2P clients?

Have you or anyone you know gotten in trouble for doing so?

Stories?

Not yet.I don't torrent but I know people who do and I have not yet seen anyone get caught. Really I dont think torrent users should get in trouble, but the torrent supplier.

I don't think people downloading torrents are actively sought after. The people providing the torrents, they are sought after. (eg. the pirate bay).

No, because I don't download illegally. Illegal downloading is just asking for trouble.

Uhh no but you can get in serious trouble for doing so. I remember an article awhile ago. A woman download 17 songs from a torrent, and was sued for thousands of dollars.

Every file on my computer is 100% legal and that is done for more then one reason which is not about fear of being caught which seems unlikely now days based on the millions that still torrent, it is more about trying to do what is right and paying for what I want to own, give some value to what I want.

I did a quick search, and here's a story from 1996 ...

  • SAN RAFAEL, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 13, 1996--Autodesk today announced it has settled a software copyright infringement case for more than $220,000 against Westech College, a Southern California-based operator of trade schools.

I'll bet there's many more.
