We could accomplish this in 5 or less years if we as US citizens quit our political bickering & get down to serious business! Stop the political division & work on plans for a Moon base as our stepping stone to Mars & possibly beyond.

The political bickering & getting involved in foreign military cess-pots is what’s holding America back from accomplishing the goal your describing.

It probably won't take any more than 30 years for the moon. Mars will be much harder though. But honestly, I hope we never do. It would be such an enormous wawste of money that could go towards other things that actually matter. If I had it my way, we would never go on the moon again because it's such a waste. That's just me though...

i think we might build a little base camp on the moon within 30 years but mars will take alot longer to plan. :D

Well, first we have to get there, or in the case of the moon, return there. I think some nation will build something on the moon within the next 8 to 10 years -- either a fuel depot or materials storage station. I do not think we will see a human set foot on Mars within the next 20 years, but I would sure like to be wrong about that!
