What good email announcers are there ?

Hi I need an email application (for PC) that makes a sound or preferably pops up a message when you receive a new email. I don't want an email application like Outlook / Thunderbird that download emails on the PC. I just want an announcement sort of thing. And a safe one :) Thanks :)

and yes I use Gmail.
