I saw this on a shirt once. I personaly think that science is one of humanities most important endeavors. There is very little that is as bad as ignorance of the world around us.

Yes and no. One first needs to understand what science is. One then needs to define "works". If the question is "Does science provide 100% reliable facts 100% of the time?" science is about proving or disproving theories by making predictions and observing what happens in reality... There are likely a few things that I've missed out, but one could understand that not every experiment "works" and/or provides useful information, and not every experiment is perfect... There are a lot of things that can go wrong. I think there are many theories that have been taught very much as fact in highschools that have changed years later...
