My first real machine was (circa 1977) a Cromemco Z-2 with a Zilog Z-80A CPU that ran at either 2 or 4 MHz, has 64k of RAM, TUART, dual 8" DS/DD floppy drives, CP/M 2.2, Soroc IQ 120 terminal and a variety of printers over time. The Z-2 was a heavy rack-mount enclosure that supported up to 22 S-100 cards and weight close to 50 lbs, more with cards in place. If you're curious what this machine would look like, you can go http://www.thecomputerarchive.com and click "Enter the Archive" then the "Computers" folder and then the "Other" folder. The first Cromemco catalog PDF has the hardware in it. I don't know the Soroc is in anything that I've scanned so far... As for today, the latest is a Core i7 equipped HP laptop with average specs such as 4 GB, 2x320 GB HDs, 17" display, etc. |

I started out with the Commadore64 computer, and now I have an iMac. The commadore64 lasted until the mid 1990's before the disk drive finally broke. Instead of letting me fix it, my brother just threw it in the garbage :( |
