it could be that the silver light files are infected by something else

it's probably a false positive, but usually when this sort of thing happens i now submit the file to 'Virus Total' which scan it with multiple scanners, and you can usually make a good judgment from that.

sometimes programs you download, even from legitimate sites can contain viruses.

i downloaded some drivers from my mouse from the Razer website, like i have done in the past, my virus scanner came up with a problem, i thought it was just a false positive, turned out there site was infected with some Trojan, and infected all the drivers and software. so now if anything happens i submit the file to virus total to make sure.

I don't like it, I don't use it. I uninstalled it a short time after downloading and trying it out. Didn't like it one bit.

Btw, that picture is funny lol

Personally I've tried a few Silverlight apps and I think it's alright. But that picture just made my day :)

Although it handles video better than flash, silverlight is a little risky.

There may be a clue in the folder name:

C:\Program Files (x86)\...

I don't use 64-bit Windows, and have not seen what it looks like, but guessing this is how Windows 64-bit separates out 32-bit software from 64-bit software (so this x86 folder would be fore 32-bit applications). And, if that's the case, then the "good DLL" list maintained by Microsoft will be different for 32-bit and 64-bit Windows. And, if this is the 32-bit version of Silverlight running on a 64-bit system, perhaps Microsoft haven't listed this particular 32-bit DLL as being safe on 64-bit systems.

Lots of clauses and guesswork here, and like I say, I've not used Windows 64-bit.

Can anyone who has Windows 64-bit comment further?

Yes, you are right about the x86 folder. I have the same thing on my computer. But I haven't had that problem with Silverlight. Then again, I don't use Microsoft Security Essentials.

Yup, you are totally right on that count. I agree.

It's probably no riskier than Flash is. I just block all Flash and Silverlight in Chrome unless I want to see it.

on the contrary over flash I would like to see silver light more often than not as is faster than flash and a lower memory footprint. The 2010 olympics site from NBC was silverlight and was amazing to use as well.

I tried to get silverlight, but it just wouldn't work. It was on Vista, sadly, and it installed itself, but that's it. It would not open when I tried to open. Instead, the settings came up, I clicked "OK", and nothing.
