Should you brush your teeth before or after breakfast?

From Yahoo! answers:

You should brush BEFORE having breakfast. In terms of oral health it is much better to do it before because it gets rid of plaque which is the number one cause of tooth decay, gingivitis and periodontal diseases. But more importantly the reasoning behind this is that if you have acidic foods/drinks such as orange juice then you will be lowering the pH of your mouth (ie. your mouth will be acidic), a low pH is a bad thing for your teeth as it causes deminerlization. Imagine that your tooth is a reservoir of minerals, now you have just had breakfast with all the orange juice and sugary cereals and jam etc and the acid level in your mouth is very high. Your tooth is essentially being dissolved! If you brush your teeth immediately after this, you are brushing away the minerals from your teeth and eventually your teeth are going to become very sensitive! By brushing BEFORE you have breakfast you are disrupting the plaque biofilm and creating clean tooth surfaces whilst also minimizing the risk of tooth loss by erosion. Source(s):I'm a dentist

After breakfast, why clean the dirt of your teeth if its just going right back on a few minutes later? Also, toothpaste can affect the way your breakfast tastes. Ever have orange juice after brushing your teeth?

Orange juice after brushing my teeth...been there and done that like a million times. Probably because I don't feel pain that well.

I brush before breakfast

For oral health wise I like to do it before because it whips out the overnight build up and makes my teeth feel clean.

I usually brush after eating breakfast. I don't like doing it before because it ruins the taste of food.

Because of the properties of toothpaste (even unflavored ones) it overstimulates taste buds and has various effects, this causes food to taste bland when you eat after brushing.

It is kinda like if you are drinking a cup of hot chocolate and you decide to take a bite of a chocolate bar or some kind of candy, you will notice that the drink suddenly became almost bitter. It takes around an hour for the these side effects to go away completely.

After, of course. Otherwise it tastes weird :P like all minty. I don't like mint, though I've learnt to be accustomed to the taste of toothpaste.

I always brush after breakfast. It seems kind of pointless to wake up, brush my teeth, eat breakfast, and then have the food sitting on my teeth the rest of the day.

After, not only cleans your mouth, it also freshens your breath and having a nice clean mouth until the next tim you eat feels great.
