I have an Ubuntu Server with an 8GB hard drive, Intel Pentium 4 2.4GHz, and 512MB of RAM. It will run fine unless I post a link to the webpage it is running on my social networks (Twitter, Facebook, and MySpace). The server locks up so I can't do anything but press and hold the power button to shut it down. Sometimes instead of the server locking up it will say that certain applications had to be closed because there is not enough memory. This is not only this system because I ran it on another computer and it did all the same things. So what do you guys think the problem is? Do you think I need to get more RAM? Do you think I need to get a new server? Do you think it is my Internet connection? |

Don't hard reboot like that. Memorise ALT+PrintScreen+R,E,I,S,U,B... with about 1-2 seconds between each key. It's the safer way to reboot when it crashes. Have you used memtest86 to test your memory? uname -a <-- what does that say? It says Linux zlstudios 2.6.32-22-generic-pae #33-Ubuntu SMP Wed Apr 28 14:57:29 UTC 2010 i686 GNU/Linux. Any hints in your apache log? Nope. . Ya know, it sort of bugs me when people ask questions that don't provide this information automatically. I come from an IRC background, and anyone who doesn't provide this information usually just gets turned away. pastebin Do a scan with memtest86... What is it you're trying to load, by the way? Does it have any database queries, or fire up any application? Here is the error.log, I'm pasting the access.log now: http://pastebin.com/bJtbY7Sa Here is the access.log: http://pastebin.com/X4j3KrNm I'm trying to get the server not to lockup every time I post a link to it on a social network. The whole server locks up when I post the links. The websites all use Wordpress and other things that use PHP and MySQL. This may not be related to Ubuntu, or Apache at all. Have you tried any other web apps to see if they cause these "crashes"? It only seems that social networks like MySpace, Facebook, and Twitter do this. I have my links posted on forums and things like that and I have no problems. I'm sorry, man... I can't help you, I simply don't have enough information.
