I am going to upgrade to the new iPhone 4 in a few weeks but i was just wondering if for the time being, if iBooks with the new update will be compatible with the iphone 3G?

All devices that have iOS 4 available to them will be able to use iBooks.

All devices using iOS 4 will support iBooks. So, yes. That includes the iPhone 3G.
