Well, personally I would prefer built in because that means wherever my laptop goes, my webcam goes as well but if I had a desktop PC I would say external for the better quality, and once I put it on I don't need to move it around or anything like that.

+1 because adding the same answer twice is silly; but adding upon that... External because:

  • Upgradability
  • Integrated/built in webcams generally suck
  • Easier to aim, reorient, and doesn't depend on the system's position.

I prefer internal. I find that external hard drives fail alot. If it was ssd on the other hand I would go for external.

External for home as you can often get better quality and move it around.

Internal if your out and about or need a webcam and don't want to lug loads of extra things that can get lost. Also one less pesky wire to think about.
