I'm curious to see what size font you prefer to use and what is to small? I know if you use ctrl + or - you can change the size of the font on PC.

Is there REALLY a "best answer" to this question?

12 at minimum and around 16 at max. If its too small all I need to do is press ctrl + or ctrl - to shrink.

Well, I can read 9-10 pt font, but it depends on the resolution of the monitor if it doesn't show the text well.

Around 14 and 16 font size. Some fonts look better on different sizes. It depends on the font.

14/16 pt or 14/16 px?

(Jun 14 '10 at 05:23) strager strager's gravatar image

I usually view things at 14, like rocky05 pointed out different fonts look better in certain sizes. I tend to sick to arial black, arial, and lucia grande.

I have a 120 DPI display, and small fonts (typically under 14px) really annoy me, especially because I have visibility problems.

On LG, for example, I have to have Opera zoom in 150% to make the text even readable in most cases. Depending on how far I am away from my monitor, zoom levels on LG range from 140% to 170%. That's about 14px to 17px.

Sites which use point-relative or percent-relative sizes (like Google) are really kind to me because they don't require me to zoom so I can read anything.

Of course, antialiasing affects readability (especially subpixel antialiasing for LCD's) as does proper (or improper) kerning and hinting. Adobe's font renderers (used in Photoshop, for example) are really nice for readability (in my opinion) because they don't ruin the fidelity ("trueness") of the original font like Windows' default font renderer does.
