If you live in America, do you think you should buy an American car before buying an import? |
It's America, so you can do what you want. I think it's a wash these days, with so many foreign automakers operating manufacturing plants here in the United States, employing American autoworkers. We have a Toyota Tundra full production plant here and it employs a large number of people. That's American people benefiting directly from the work and profits of a foreign automaker. Further, the foreign automakers don't bleed taxpayers dry by taking Federal bailout funds. The only U.S. automaker who didn't need or accept Federal bailout funds? Ford. general motors has payed back there loan plus interest and chrysler was bought out 1
Actually, GM has only repaid a fraction of what they were given in bailout funds from the Fed -- "The loan is a fraction of the $50 billion GM received from the U.S. government last year. The big payback will come when GM goes public and the U.S. can begin to sell off its 60% stake in the company." http://firstread.msnbc.msn.com/_news/2010/04/21/4424642-white-house-touts-gm-loan-repayment -- Wall Street Journal http://www.factcheck.org/2010/05/general-motors-debt/ The numbers will tell you anything if you tortue them enough. Fox News only employs liars, but good ones. My experience is that a survey of several newspapers or reports produce a sensible idea i=of the facts- unless Fox is involved. Regarding the GM monies, the answer is " Kind of " My gut tells me the US Treasure will get all of its money back and as we did in the 1970s with Chrysler and Lee Iococoa, the US will MAKE money on the deal. GM payed off everything they owed. If they didn't, then why would there have been commercials saying they did? |

I like European cars because they really hug the road, and it doesn't feel like it's going to lose control, spin out, or do anything like that. |
Our Government didn't give it's citizens a full bailout like the Auto Industry. I will buy the car of my choosing. That said ... Is any an American Car truly American? I say NO! I'll bet that a large number of parts are made elsewhere, then assembled here. Now I feel like upgrading my Vespa! |
I understand that alot of the things we buy are built overseas, but i think with the number of American car company's we should buy a American car before a foreign car....we help out other country's so much without realizing it, especially considering we are in the second great depression. |
As an outsider looking in. I think the reason people brought imports was because America was making rubbish cars for the american people. I'll wager $10 that if america makes good cars for the american market then people will buy them. It's not spite, it's the fact that there is so much choice and sometimes non american looks better. Why did the uk auto industry die? Same reason... oh and a bunch of strikes... Ford often gives all their decent cars to Europe and the others were just spewing out tat for the average joe. That svt raptor pickup truck looks pretty sweet though. |

I buy American. I do like Saab, BMW and Volkswagen makes a quick and durable deisel [sp?]. I don't give a rat's ass is Asian cars are built in the US, I won't buy one. EVER. |
In my house we use Japanese cars since we don't like the quality, over use of fuel(American cars consumes more fuel than Japanese cars and European cars and even when having less "force" and speed) and the consumer service is un-efficient in the dealers while Hyundai and Toyota have free service like oil replace for five years. I'm an "American" citizen and I think buying an american car is going to be a waste of money ^^ |

Yes, I do. Whether it's new or used. Private seller or a dealer. It's just the right thing to do. In my opinion, those stupid foreign cars shouldn't even be allowed in this country. |
