Like allot of my friends I'm an ameteur sound engineer/musician/producer and I have been pondering this question for a while.

My question is "is the general public really willing to sacrifice audio quality in return for easy access?" I'm not one of those types of audiophile who curse at the sight of Spotify but with film download services such as ZML offering 1080p HD video, isn't it time for HD audio? I would love to see audio services offering WAV file format for download.

I think the general public can sacrifice quality for size. A lot of people are listening to music on little, low quality earbud headphone than good, high-quality headphones.

High-quality anything is always nice, but the problem is not only easy access but file size, too. Now that many people have huge music libraries (you can thank the internet for that), they might not be able to fit 10,000 high quality songs even on a 64GB Touch. Also because of size, the download speeds might be slower and the servers hosting the files would probably be under a lot of stress.
