As a native taco connoisseur (meaning: I'm mexican XD), I think "hard tacos" are cheap immitations of burritos, they don't deserve to be named tacos! Taco Bell does not make tacos they suck at it, you don't eat tacos at restaurants, you eat tacos at taquerías. You can eat tacos at home if you prepare them yourself: grab a tortilla (real tortilla, not that cheesy fatty crap), put meat in it, good ol' spicy salsa, maybe some cream and you're done.

What makes Mexican food so great is the freshness of our ingredients, we eat very little processed food.

I eat tacos more than twice a week (in fact I had tacos for dinner), I love my country and our culinary diversity! What US calls tacos we call utter crap, for real xD (no offense to US people :) but if you want to eat real tacos come to Mexico or prepare them the right way! :D).

This is a real taquería:

That red thing is called "trompo" and, the guy is the "taquero" and that trompo is where "Tacos al pastor" come from.

If your food looks like this:

It's NOT a taco. Call it something else :P

These are real tacos:

2nd picture = tacos de carnitas = real tacos. There's no place in the world of tacos for mass production :)

Soft shells most definitely! Hard tacos always seem to break when I eat them. Plus soft shells are just like burritos... Whats the exact difference?

Burritos have bigger tortillas and they're not really tacos.

Soft shells all the way! As long as the meat is good, I'll eat it!

Wow a lot of support for the soft-taco.

Down here is Australia the hard-taco is much more popular - as in, most people would probably look at you with a blank stare if you asked them for a soft-taco.

Correct me, but soft tacos are not burritos or anything right? They are their own thing?..?

What exactly is a soft taco and what varieties do you enjoy?

Burritos are made with flour tortilla and are much larger.

I suppose you could look at a soft taco as a mini-burrito, but it's really the same as a taco, just with a soft shell. http://www.kraftrecipes.com/recipes/steak-soft-tacos-54813.aspx

I typically like both, depends on the place.

I like the hard shell tacos. I just don't like the taste of tortilla that much.
