Alot of people at my work do "walks for cancer" and my family in St.Louis are heavily involved in cystic fibrosis fund raising. My son was born with a cleft pallet and the doctors fixed it right up. But i came to find out that children all around the world don't have the corrective surgery and live into adulthood with clefts. Its hard for me to imagine my son having to deal with that so i give to the smile train.

Do you have a favorite charity? What draws you to it?

I like Habitat for Humanity the best. I did some work with them in January. It was really pleasant. I got to help out with people building a house. It was cold, but worth it.

Room to Read, cuz I love libraries and can't imagine living somewhere without a library. I also like giving directly to appealing projects via DonorsChoose or Global Giving

I have participated in several different cancer walks and events, as well. My oldest brother died from cancer ten years ago now, and that has spurred my support in charities such as the American Cancer Society.

HOWEVER.

If I were to choose a favorite charity, and one I'd give anything to be able to spend a summer helping with, it would be the Victory Junction Gang Camp. This camp for terminally ill children was started by NASCAR driver Kyle Petty. They do absolutely amazing things with kids there, giving them a shot at a great summer - just like any "normal" kid has. :)

I love these awanswers! It really makes me think about how lucky I am. All the monny I spend on tech and other things... Then I think wow a few bucks or a weekend of my time can really change someones life.

These responces makes me happy to be a part of lockegnome.net not to sound to corny but it's true :-)
