What do you do during a power outage?

We haven't had a long power outage in quite awhile (knock on wood), but I always enjoy lighting candles around the house and having a quiet meal with my family during the storm and/or power outage. If it's a really long one, we'll pull out a battery powered radio, play cards, open the windows (for airflow, since we're used to running our ceiling fans all time time,) or go out on our deck and enjoy the darkness and terrific night sky viewing (impossible when everyone's lights are on here.)

I haven't gotten to do it, but I'd probably fire up my Kindle and booklight and read for awhile, too.

Cry, sit in my room and whine about how pointless my life is. And realize how stupidly reliant on technology I am.

A few years ago we had a huge ice Storm here in Kansas. One side of the town was with out power for almost a week. I pluged a inverter in to my car and ran a cord in to my house. Because I still had ADSL I hand Internet. Then I found some old led's and riged up two old flash lights to them and wired them in to old phone cords and hooked them into unused phone jacks. They put out a decent amount of light exspecialy when your in pitch black lol. Bow I have a genarator.

I sit in the dark and think or light a candle and read a book. You'd be surprised how much you can do with an imagination.

Generator.

We haven't had a major power outage in a while. The only thing closest was during an Ice Storm here in NY. Our power and cable went out for an hour, while the rest of the town was out for a day or two. We were lucky during that storm, so we had to give our generator to someone else.

I feel like I've gotten off topic. So yeah, we just use a generator, and we plug in our sub-pump, computer, and refrigerator.

Hang out with my family, play on my iPad, read, and watch some movies. If you have a generator you can still do a lot of the things that had to have electricity, but if you do not have one you can still use the battery power on your devices.

Well out here in northern B.C Canada we get power outages at least once a month. But one that was really bad was 2 weeks before christmas the power was out at my place for 9 days! it really sucked lol.. Well the first thing i did was play on the good old iPod Touch but after a little while the battery died :( that was pretty much the only device i had at the time that ran on battery and for the rest of the 9 days i basically stared at the walls. Yeah and it was -26 degrees celsius thats about -14 fahrenheit and thats not including the wind with wind it must have felt like at least -40. But this year i am prepared! I have a new macbook pro (10 hours of battery life) and a generator that should power my imac and the rest of the goodies for a few days anyway!

I usually sit in the living room listening to the radio(battery powered) or playing games on my iPod touch.

I purchased a whole house automatic natural gas powered 18Kw generator a few months ago but have not used it yet, except for a test run to make sure it worked. They are very expensive, but after years of frustration during loss of power it's comforting to know that there will be power when the electricity goes off.

Sitting in the dark at night drives me crazy! No computer, no TV, not being able to read under candle light is very unpleasant...especially when you live alone. The last time this happened was on Christmas Eve evening during an ice storm so couldn't even go somewhere else.

Turn on my wireless broadband card & continue wasting time as usual!
