Is It Me Or Does Ubuntu 10.04 Feel Slower Than Windows 7?

OK, I pretty much dislike GNOME right now because of how slow it is. I can't get over how much slower Ubuntu is than Windows 7. Right now I am using Xubuntu 10.04 and it is way faster than Windows 7. GNOME might use less ram than Windows 7 but, when opening programs, it's slower by miles. Anyone agree with me? Xubuntu 10.04 is currently my favorite Linux Distro and XFCE is my favorite desktop manager.

On the first few uses and updates, ubuntu is a little slower but in apps that don't rely on any special hard ware acceleration thats proprietary to a set few OS'es, Ubuntu will run them faster than windows 7 but slightly slower than windows XP

I currently have windows xp, windows 7, and ubuntu 10.04 installed

with ubuntu, make sure you have all of the latest drivers installed, don't use any weird eye candy effects and the os will run very fast.
