Facebook's most recent change to its so called "newsfeed" supposedly uses a newsfeed to identify friend posts that you should find interesting, thought-provoking, etc. Have you found this to be the case? |

i think it takes into acount, these factors/varibles how old the content is number of reply's/comments percentage of mutual friends who have replied and commented on it, and if its a photo how manny of your friends have been tagged and people who you constantly interact with yourself get a higher priorority. i am not basing this on anything but my own assumptions as to how it works, but say you gave each post a score of 100 for every hour it gets older it looses ten points every time it gets a comment it gains ten points different media will get different percent boosts to each point earnt like pictures 10 % video 15% facebook apps 7% ect..... every time a comment is from a mutual friend it gets another ten points on top of that if you interact with them constantly the rate of oldness (point loss over time) would be decreased to 5 based on the activity rate of your personal network on Facebook (how much action your news feed gets) anything over a day or so (greater the rate of news feed the smaller the time frame) gets automatically withdrawn from the list then using this they are orded from highest to lowest points as you can see the algorithm there is pretty basic and i just made it up in the last 30 seconds, but you get the idea |

I personally have found it so bad that I resorted to creating my own lists of "Friends" but then Facebook changed the interface and made that unbearably difficult. What is it about this newsfeed? Is there bottom line affected by this algorythm? I mean the timing of posts is all over the place there doesn't appear to be any real logic or time reference associated with their placement on the "list". Is there a published criterion somewhere? |

I've never liked the "Most popular" thing, I just switch it to "New Posts" instead. I think it's just randomised, really. |
