I want to buy the new iPhone 4 but I got a question. I travel a lot, I live in the US and twice a year I go to Colombia which is in South America. I know that I can make calls but that charges a lot so I wanted to unlock it first. Is unlocking the same thing as jailbreaking, is it illegal and would it void my warranty? I would want to be able to put a another SIM from another country and make it work.please be specific in you answer. Please help, thank you! |

If you're on 3.1.3, Jailbreak using an Jailbreak tool called Spirit, available for download at http://www.applehack23.com/AppleHack23/Downloads.html I hosted it on my site. Once you're done with that, download ultraSn0w from the Cydia search, make sure the version of ultraSn0w is 0.93. Then insert a foreign SIM card, and you're good to go. |

If you buy the iPhone 4 you will half to wait for someone like the Dev Team to come out with a jailbreak for it and then an unlock for it. You will have to jailbreak it then unlock it. Jailbreaking and unlocking is not illegal but it does void your warranty, but if you ever have to bring it in to apple for some reason all you need to do is restore and apple would never be able to tell that you jailbroke it, just remember to put your att sim back in the phone. |

The iPhone 4 has been unlocked and Jailbroken using one of three exploits found by the Dev Team, they are currently testing the other two, and by the time you get yours, it should have an unlock ready. Remember to save save your SHSH's though.
save my what? what is a SHSH
P.S. if i restore is there any way of telling i jail-broke? and lets say a new apple firmware comes out will i be able to download it?
No, there is no way to tell that you Jailbroke if you RESTORE and SETUP AS NEW. Also, you can read up on SHSH's at the following link.
