Do People find syncing iBooks impossible?

I recently bought myself an iPad. One of the first things I did was to purchase some books from iBookstore. I then wanted to back them up onto my Mac. But when I did so it informed me that I wasn't authorised to have certain books on my ipad - and duly wiped them off. I then decided that because of this I would not sync anymore, and when I unchecked the sync all books button it the wiped ALL my books from my iPad!! Of course I just redownloaded them all. But does anyone have any idea what was going on?
