I have an SMF forum and it says Simple Machines Forums at the top of the site and I haven't been able to figure out how to get rid of it. How can I do that? Is it even possible?

The part at the top where it says "Simple Machines Forum" is actually part of the theme. Install a different theme/template for your site, and it should disappear. You can find free SMF themes here.
