We talk about it and think about it, but humanity as a whole is still very very far from living in harmony with the environment. Many of the newest innovative green inventions are trashed or poorly implemented due to the impracticality of entire cities that work with the environment and not against it. How soon, if ever, will we at a state where we can truly declare ourselves as "eco-friendly"?

It's not likely. Green involves not changing the environment at all out of fear that we might disrupt something crucial. Even solar panels require metals and silicon harvested by mining, which is extremely harmful. Until we can create 100% efficient mechanism that convert electrical energy to kinetic energy (without mining), our engines will always generate heat, which will contribute slightly to global warming (so there is no denying that we as humanity contribute to global warming). Our TVs, stoves, fridges and washing machines will generate heat, etc.

Besides, we've already sped up the climate change process to such a point that the tundra will melt, methane will be released and that will cause far greater damage than we've caused thus far. We've ruined the planet and we just have to come to terms with that.

Humanity's never lived without altering its environment (think Stone Age and onward,) so if you mean will we ever live 100% sustainably I'd have to say no, at least not until we have to (for example, on a Mars colony where resupply is difficult/impossible.)

Is it possible to live more in accordance with nature and make better decisions about what we use and how we use it? Certainly, and that is being done throughout the world, but again necessity tends to be the mother of invention... not what is "right" or "best". Until necessity forces our hand to do things like reduce our dependence on fossil fuels, we won't see widescale changes... there are early adopters, of course, and like any technology those folks help pave the way for when the technology/practice becomes more mainstream and more economical.
