I think that the tabs look pretty cool and the way videos and things like that are intergrated into the conversation.

I personally moved from Windows Live Messenger to Pidgin to chat using my hotmail address because Windows Live Messenger has always been 'one step behind' for me and I didn't really like it when they removed the feature of running scripts (e.g. auto away message scripts).
