I just upgraded my XP machine from 256mb of RAM to 1GB. The BIOS recognizes that I have installed 1GB of RAM but when I look into computer settings it still reads 256mb of RAM. Any Suggestions?

Start > Run > msinfo32 click [OK] ... What does System Info show?

Pull up Task Manager > Performance Tab ... Does this match?

re-seat the ram, and as always use a static strap.

Is the RAM all of the way in, because sometimes when I do it, the RAM isn't all of the way in.

You may want to check bios and see if some memory is designated to video. Do you have a video card? You may need to change some settings in nbios to or install a video card.

The RAM needs to be all the way inserted. Also make sure it is compatible with your computer (should be).

Take out the RAM, clean the contacts and the input, press it in until you hear two clicks.
