Well, lets count:

1,2,3 CAT.6 LAN cables, 3 USB mouse cables, 1 USB keyboard cable, 1 PS/2 cable, 2 VGA cables, 3 USB Hub cables, 1 HF antenna cable, 1 UHF antenna cable, 9 power cords, 5 USB data cables (cell phones, palmtop, navi), 1 USB cable for my steering wheel controller, 1 connector cable for the pedals, 1 USB cam cable, 3 Audio cables. This sums up to a (current) total of 35 cables behind THIS desk.

Lets see whats on the next desk. Ah, 2 LAN cables. Oh, what is this cable for? . . . BZZZZZZZZZZT

"Behind" is such a vague term. For the purposes of this question, I shall assume it to mean "In the periphery of".

It's funny, Once a year i plug everything out, tidy up, clean, doing a fantastic job if i do say so myself. But i swear that when i plug everything in again i will do it neatly and not let it get out of control ever again and guess what ???? you've guessed correctly.

I have a lot of cords behind my computer, but I keep all of them somewhat organized in the sense that random cords aren't back there for no reason. I also make sure that each cable is run alongside some cables to reduce some desktop clutter. You can use tape if you need to. It's a very simple solution that most people commonly have.

I have a bunch of cords behind my desk. I like to keep a clean desk top, so there are no wires at all on the desk surface, everything is behind the desk, and stringed through the drawers.

There are a TON of cords, but they're all completely hidden along the bottomside of the desk, so it still looks nice. A pain to pull out a cord when you decide to remove something, though.
