Has anyone made a TV yet that includes the Mini Displayport? It was announced that it would be an open standard, but I don't see manufacturers including it on products yet. I wonder why? Audio out is supported now, so there really is no reason to be using HDMI over Mini Displayport. Any thoughts/suggestions?

Apple is fickle. They may say it's an open standard, and Toshiba and a few others have implemented it in some of their products, but HDMI is an far more open standard. Further, all Apple mini displayports do not pass audio -- only the April 2010 updated MacBook Pro's pass audio. I have a 27" iMac i7 I just purchased... no audio to my HDTV over the mini displayport.

I have 3 HDMI inputs on my HDTV and I already had a mini displayport to HDMI adapter from using an external monitor with my (2009) MacBook Pro. Until Apple gets more consistent, HDMI is the way to go if you're building a TV for the mass market... and even Apple knows that, having added HDMI (finally) to the Mac Mini updated earlier this month.

Apple just put that on for the same reason the iPhone & iPod & iPad have dock connectors: To make you buy their proprietary cables & chargers & etc. It's just more money for them. They certainly wouldn't be the first company to do that though. As for the "Open Standard" of it I haven't seen hardly any TVs with a port like that on them. The only monitor I've heard of that has that port is the one apple sells.
