NVIDIA VP says 'Moore's law is dead' | Moore's Law is the prediction that that the number of transistors per square inch on integrated circuits will double every year.

I'm not sure if it is dead quite yet. however it will be dead. you can only break a transistor down so much before its no longer a transistor. I'm talking about when transistors are only a few atoms. right now with how small chips are they are getting interference from one part of the IC into another. |
|
We'll have to wait and see, If anything, it's less than 2 years given the rate tech is growing |
|
Moores laws not dead yet, but at the moment the theoretical computing science going on at the moment means that in around 1.5 - 4 years we will have reached the saturation point for transistors. |

Moore's Law is not a law of physics but a mere observation. There are 2 very different stands by futurists on 'How Long this law will be Valid". Michio Kaku says that this law will 'collapse' because we would have exhausted all our silicon resources, and that quantum computing may replace silicon. In a sense, Silicon valley will become Quantum valley. Ray Kurzweil, says that by 2045 there will be a 'Singularity' where Man and Machine will become one, and that this trend will go on for a quite a long time. By the way, Gordon Moore himself said that "It can't continue forever. The nature of exponentials is that you push them out and eventually disaster happens." Well, if this trend continues, then by 2050 we'll have robots who are our masters and control us! I got my information from this blog. Its a long post. I've just quoted a few paragraphs. That version of the law is. The version that says "Computers will double in power every 18 months" will continue long in to the future. |
