I'm thinking about getting a dog.

I've had dogs in the past, and fed them people food. Mostly scraps from the table, because it seemed silly to throw away food I wasn't going to eat but at the same time buy expensive dog food, when they love the human food so much. I don't mind if they beg; just give 'em a scrap and they run away with it.

It must be the food I eat, but they never seem to get sick. So what's wrong with giving them people food?

My nieces & nephews would like to know if they can feed candy to dogs?

Note: Candy as in food; NOT people named Candy

Dogs cannot have the following:

Turkey Chocolate Grapes Raisins Onions Spicy food (suffocate from that)

But you should always check with your vet before you give your dog something they haven't eaten before, just to make sure. Better safe than sorry!

There isn't actually anything wrong with feeding them "peoples" food. You just have to make sure that you don´t make them beg by always giving them when they beg while you´re eating. Anyways, you should mix it up with regular dog food. It does not have to be the most expensive, but just something your dog likes.

I generally cook for my dog. and dogs in which I have taken care of for friends, became more energetic when I gave them proper food.

Many people who give their dogs, dog food, will often give them the same food all the time and they get tired of it but still eat it because nothing else is given to them. Even worst is the food will not provide everything needed. Dog food also taste bad

I recommend cooking some healthy food from sites like http://allrecipes.com/

Don't give them the same food all the time. If you are not ok with eating something then don't give it to your dog.

There's really nothing wrong with letting dogs eat "people's" food except some foods that may cause dogs to get sick. Also you must not let dogs get used to you giving him your food because then he'll never stop begging.

Adding people food to a dogs diet is okay, but there's a time & place. My dogs were trained well. They were taught not to beg, ignore food not from me, etc. Treats were associated with training. I didn't include treats during playtime.

I think as long as you don't do it too often it's ok, because if you give them people food often, you risk them raiding your plate at the dinner table when you're in the kitchen getting something to drink. It's happened to my family before.

Generally some people food is bad for dogs like chocolate. So you could potentially make your dog really sick if they ate it.
