Based on a true incidence (not me, a friend) that the telephone provider (not naming, but one you love to hate, especially cellular service) accidentally chop of your telephone line and did not fix it. Also if you only had internet through DSL and not cable. What would you do? (i would also note it is an out of the house problem)

Also, you will need to call them somehow to make them move and fix it, (bonus if you can find another way of calling them without a cell phone cause the cell service is bad).

Also, I bet you can guess the service it is, put it in your answer.

I would probably go into fetal position on the floor. Then I would force myself to use my friends internet. Using his internet I would contact my isp.

Well I would try calling from my cell phone to see if I can't alert our energy company. If not I don't know what I would do.

My power company is getting in on the internet/phone/TV biz. They are currently running fiber optic cables and have already started serving customers with it. Higher speeds at the same price as I am paying now. I can't wait until it is available at my place.

There's always stuff on the computer itself to do. I can write and play games!

I can also just read a book, or draw something up. Or I can just sleep through it.

I'd leave the house and go somewhere that has Internet and/or good cell coverage to report the issue and schedule a service visit. If my Internet provider was unreachable due to excessive call volume (can you tell this has happened to me before?) I'd turn off all the computers and take the opportunity to rearrange and organize everything; I wouldn't be disrupting as much due to the Internet outage.

As to your "guess which Internet provider" question, it sounds like AT&T U-verse, but I don't have any direct experience with them.

You are right (but less people say the u-verse addon) and with AT&T cell service in san francisco (for example) calls drop like hell, so it is another problem

I would say some very bad words in that little talk with my isp

I've made Fallback connections to The Internet.

How I'd contact AT&T to Dispatch a Repair Truck:

  • Dial 611 from my iPhone and speak directly to AT&T
  • AT&T will ask for Address, Account Number, Phone Number, etc.
  • Phone services need to be up within a certain time. Related to 911.

  • If not on AT&T, then dial them directly from any phone (mobile, neighbors, pay phone, etc.)

the problem is, is that you have no telephone connection, and the cell service sucks (especially in San Francisco-Dropped Calls)

As I stated, your friend needs to contact AT&T. There are laws of how long a phone outage can be. Something related to 911. They can't fix what they don't know about.

I would go around taking everything apart to build somekind of radio contact device, because obviously I would be too internet-deprived to talk to anyone.

I have plenty of books I have bought from thrift stores and have not had a chance to read. That is what I would do if I lost internet.
