If you could add or remove features from the iOS (the mobile operating system for iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad) what would you choose? Personally, I'd like a more effective implementation of multi tasking, whereby only apps capable of multi tasking could run in the background. Also, I would like to see a "Kill All" button for multi tasking, instead of having to end apps one by one in the multi tasking interface.

So, what features would you like to see in the next iOS, or what features do you feel need to be refined or removed from the next iteration of the iOS?

A wifi hotspot app for registered tethering AT&T customers, signatures for messages, themed icons and dock, actually the ability to theme everything, blocking numbers, Xcode mobile, the ability to view all recent iTunes purchases. Status bar notifications, such as mail, missed call, voicemail, text, etc. Fast texting, like hitting e upper volume button and then tapping the volume changed sign to start a new in app text. All phones unlocked, ability to change time and carrier logos, all you mail, weather, calendar, twitter replies on your lock screen. Make quick tweets by dragging down from the status bar, sbsettings type thing, multiple icon movement, full fledged folders, wireless syncing, OTA updates, watch live tv on your idevice, flash - hacker Comex has made a third party plugin that runs smoothly on the iPad and iPhone, Steve wanted to see flash run smoothly on a mobile device in order to put it on, well what better mobile device than your own? User agent faker, ability to change default browser, widgets, expose-like home screen changer. That would be all I really wanted.

The inability to view purchases has been a shortcoming of iTunes and the App Store that has slightly annoyed me ever since I purchased my iPhone. The way I see it, if Apple are willing to send you a receipt of recently purchased applications from time-to-time, why can't they send you a list of ALL purchases on request?

Also, iDevices (iPod Touch, iPhone and iPad) are already capable of watching live TV, as services such as tvcatchup.com have proven in the UK (I'm not advertising, just referring to one of the only live TV services that I've used that has actually worked). Developers and broadcasters have the tools available to make more shows available to stream live, it's just up to them, not Apple, to put in the time and effort to meet these demands.

Widgets. I really love my widgets in Android. I think it would be a great addition. I think Apple should try to have a lot of the same things as Android, as well as some great new things that will make it unique.

I would love to see the option to turn multitasking on/off or select which apps you don't want to multitask.

They're not actually multitasking, they're using the same amount of resources, (including battery life) as if they were closed completely.

AppleHack, some apps are actually multitasking, for example many radio and other streaming apps have now been made compatible with iOS 4's multitasking infrastructure, and can now play in the background while you use another app, much like what the iPod app is capable of doing.

No, there is no multitasking on iOS, there are services running in the background, in which applications have to build into, its not the app run ing, it's just a regular system event. It's the operating system running not the app, and this is because of the 7 multitasking APIs.

You're failing to see my point. The applications are technically multitasking as an application running in the background whilst you are using another application allows you to multi-task. Therefore, the device is capable of multitasking, as you are carrying out more than one task at once with compatible applications that allow the act of multitasking to be possible with any iDevice compatible with iOS 4.

You're not understanding, the way how the device plays music through the standard iPod application, is the same way applications such as Pandora are playing. They're having the music play the same way the iPod app does it. When an application "multitasks", it is put in a frozen state, where a script running in the background is remembering it's state, so its not actually running, but when you open the app, that script allows it to continuewhwre you left off.

I'm not talking about the way in which music applications are capable of performing background tasks, as there are also other examples of how applications can multi-task within iOS 4. For example, many gaming applications create a save state upon exit, and this means that if two or more of such appications are used in this way, you are multitasking, as previously you would have to return to the home screen in order to play another game, whereas now you can access states saved by applications from the task menu / multitasking menu.
