hi, i am going to get a macbook pro for video editing (final cut pro) and i was wondering, i have enough money to get 8gb of ram, but is it worth it? or should i use the money on a 500gb hdd, i am getting the base model, with a 2.4 ghz intel core 2 duo.

When it comes to Final Cut Pro, the more cores you have is more important than how much ram you have. Btw, be sure to get either the 15-inch or 17-inch, as they have independent graphics. The 13-inch has integrated graphics, and it won't work as nicely with FCP.

If you plan on using VMware Fusion with Windows, then go with the 8gb of ram, but if you don't plan on doing that, the 4gb of ram is plenty.

If I were you though, I'd go with the core i5 model over the core 2 duo for video editing.

what do you think about the lowest 15 inch one, it has an i5 at 2.4 ghz, it has nvidia geforce gt 330m with 256 mb, but litterally thats the most money i MIGHT be able to spend

any of the 15-inch models should work just fine. Also, for around the same price you can get a 27-inch iMac, which would work even better, but it's not portable.

Will you be running more than the video editor at the same time.

For example some people will use their video editor and also photoshop and a 3d modeling program when working on a video.

If possible, you could go with 8GB or compare pricing, in most cases when buying a prebuilt computer, if you have the company add more memory, they will rip you off, (for example look at some of the gaming PC companies, for the price of going with 6GB of memory form then you can get your self 12GB if you bought the memory your self and installed it.

Compare pricing and consider what you will be running (4GB could work but I recommend 8GB)

PS current mac book pro's are very underpowered for their price tag

for video editing - probably, but I don't suggest you doing that. Get something better or just save these money :)
