Hi, I'm getting a MacBook Pro 15 inch, with an i5. It's the cheapest one. It is very expensive to me, and I'd like to save some money, so I'm using the educational discount. I could go cheaper with a refurbished one, but is it worth it? Will it have dents in the unibody? etc... thanks!

A Mac is a Mac. If it has all of the components inside of it, and it works, it's no better than any other Mac out there.

The only thing that it dies down to is your personal preference. If there are dents in it (Apple wouldn't sell you something like that as far as I'm concerned), than obviously it would have less resell value, but if it works and has no problems with it, I'd use it any day.

In the past I used to buy my Macs second hand. I would always meet up with the seller and check out the Mac and test it. That might be a good option. :) There are loads of 2nd hand websites out there.

I recommend to hold off your purchase for a few more months. The new Apple line up will be out, and that MacBook Pro will most likely drop in price.

In regards to used Macs, I've bought from ebay many times without issues. I still got the warranty & service as if I bought it from an Apple Store.

Enjoy!

As apple say:

All refurb's are completley checked and maintained before sale. There may be scratches or other minor wear, but thats it. the reason its cheaper is because some of it is pre-owned.

So really, its just like the mac being new, just with a few scratches or whatever. I'd say its worth it, and considering you can get these cleaning kits on the internet designed for apple products, you can probably clean most of the scratches off.

refurbished just means it is as good as new. Technically, companies can't sell it as new because somebody already owned it and it was returned for defects in the product. Most companies will just replace the defected part with a new part, hence the reason why refurbished means as good as new... because it is.

fyi Apple sells refurbished products on their website with a 1-year warranty.

Definetly buy refurbished from the site its just as good as when new. No real wear and tear, the genuine difference is how its registered at apple it will say refurbished and your not the first to jizz on it proof is the presentation which doesn't come in a nice white box but in a brown box only just as well packaged, it also has one year warranty from
