I was just thinking how interesting life would be if we could read each other's minds. I mean, we'd no longer be able to lie to each other and we'd be able to virtually eradicate all crime. That said, wouldn't it be far too weird to know someone could read your mind?

What would the world be like if we could read each other's minds?

In this world I would not want that power because it would drive me crazy reading some of the vacuous minds out there...

Never thought about it from that perspective. Interesting..

Maybe it would prevent people from hurting one another. If we feel someone elses pain we may just quit tearing one another to pieces. Naahh

Dangerous!!! It would take away the surprises of life and give us an insight into more than we need and want to know. Remember when mom said; "Don't say anything if you have nothing nice to say". This would negate that smart behavior and all would be revealed. Not good. Some thoughts should remain thoughts only.

(Jul 02 '10 at 12:10) asKaren asKaren's gravatar image

What if you could control the depth of that insight?

Kinda reminds me of some of the issues touched on by The Ghost in the Shell anime. It's set the in the not-too-distant future, where nearly everyone has some degree of "cyberization" ranging from cyber brain implants to full robotic body replacements.

These enhancements enable all sorts of interesting possibilities, the one relevant to your question being that it gives people the ability to communicate using thought alone. There are also instances of people reading each-others "external memory" in order to very quickly transfer large quantities of information to one another.

Might want to check the series out. It's great food-for-thought on the consequences of a constantly-connected world.

I don't think it would make life easier. You would constanlty have to watch out what you are thinking and people would steal eachothers (brilliant) ideas. It would be very scary in my opinion because people would be affraid to think certain things. But then again, thinking that you must not think about something, makes you think about that thing, so others would know what you are thinking about ,and they would know you don't want them to know. ;)

(Jul 02 '10 at 19:17) daaaveeeee daaaveeeee's gravatar image

Well i think the world would not exist.... you wouldn't have any privacy. And war would be imminent but in other cases would be in an untold love in two persons... in that would be easier but like Hanhart said you would steal ideias and you have to think what you say of each other... It would destroy lives and there wouldn't be any evolution... Heh live wouldn't be exiting... And there would not be anyone different.

It's harder to stop thinking than you think, because by thinking about not thinking about something, you're actually in essence thinking about it so it doesn't work haha. And yeah, that'd be cool. ;)

@daaaveeeee I don't actually think about not think. I just stop thinking, just like that. Please don't think that I'm a zombie.

I would prefer that no one can read each other's minds, because I really don't want to know what the girl I like really thinks about me, or maybe I do. Let's just leave it alone for now.

Also, I really don't want to know what some of the perverts in my school think about on a constant basis, it wouldn't be pretty.

Ever read 1984? It's probably the best book ever written. And one of the most important. It explores this same concept.
