I've been looking for a digi cam with a strong zoom, HD video recording, excellent picture quality and some little extra stuff as well. Then I came across the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-H55 and it was like love at first sight, but I wanted some options so I looked at other brands and the only one I saw that could come close to it was the coolpix S8000, but it couldn't zoom while video recording, kinda stupid. So is there anything out there that's better than the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-H55 that's around that price range? Thanks! (update) The first two answers are great, thanks guys! Although I did forget to mention that I do have a DSLR, that's why I'm looking for a powerful but at the same time sleek digi cam that I can take around with me where ever

It is pretty expensive here is a sample image taken by the camera at an ISO of 80 http://www.imaging-resource.com/PRODS/H55/FULLRES/H55hSLI0080.HTM it has a rather destructive noise reduction even at this ISO which removes a lot of fine detail. there is also significant fringing even at this medium/low lighting setting, (this is more common on sub $140 cameras) http://www.imaging-resource.com/PRODS/H55/H55A7.HTM link to the review while it is hard to find really good cameras in that price range, if you are ok with going a little more expensive, you can get a used DSLR for like $330 +$7 shipping http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B0012OGF6Q/ref=dp_olp_used?ie=UTF8&qid=1277915785&sr=1-4&condition=used camera review sample images http://www.dpreview.com/galleries/reviewsamples/albums/nikon-d3000-review-samples/slideshow very low image noise, and far better color quality and much more detail 100% zoom and little to no fringing. If you are going so wpend in the upper$200 range for a camera, then go with a digital SLR for a little more, you will get vastly better image quality (if you search dpreview and compare a 5 megapixel dslr image to a 10-14 megapixel point and shoot image, the dslr will still give better quality and more detail. only downside is it cant record video.

The short answer, Yes. Probably every SLR is gonna be better. I'm also looking for a new camera and one of my choices is also the sony h55, but I'm not gonna buy that one. In my opinion does the casio EX-H15 makes far better pictures. Here lays the problem, nobody can tell which camera is better. That's just a matter of opinion. www.photographyblog.com is a site which reviews a lot of camera's. The good thing about this site is that the make pictures with the camera's and show them uncompressed on their site. That's the way to make your decision. Just look at different pictures from different camera's and choice what you like the most.
