Hey, I was wondering if anyone could help me in deciding whether to upgrade my os. At the moment I'm using Windows XP (32-Bit) and I was considering upgrading to Windows 7. A few questions I have is first of all is it worth upgrading seeing as support is quickly dissapearing for XP? Second, I have a Phenom II X4 965 BE processor, if I upgrade should I go 64-Bit or 32-Bit? What are the advantages and disadvantages to each?

My System: Phenom II X4 965 BE @ 4GHz 4GB RAM 2 x ATI 5770 (CrossFire) Windows XP (32-Bit) 790GX Chipset

Thx, Mike

Oh, one more question. Windows 7 uses the NTFS file system right? I have a back up hard drive, will it be recognized in windows 7 without having to edit it?

How much ram do you have? If there is 4 Gb or more in your computer, go to 64 bit. If there is less than 4Gb of ram, go 32 bit. 64 bit can handle more than 4 Gb of ram while 32 bit cannot.

So based on your information, go 64 bit from the start.

I think with those specs 64-bit Windows 7 would feel right at home on your computer. 1GHz processor requirement: Check. 2 GB RAM requirement: Check. Decent graphics card capable of handling Aero: Check. Although now you're free to upgrade your RAM as much as you want, because 64 bit Windows can support over 4 GB of RAM.

Yes, Windows 7 does use NTFS by default, but if your external drive is FAT32, you can reformat it in Windows.
