How can I make an inbox on live.com for my own email?

I have an email address that I'd like to use on Live. I signed in to live.com with my account, but it says "You don't have an inbox...yet Sign up for Windows Live Hotmail and get a free, customizable inbox with lots of storage and great security."

How do I get it to work?
