Are you actually getting the Advertised Internet Connection Speeds?

I'm curious what the actual speed differences are between FIOS -vs- Cable? I don't have FIOS, but I'm thinking about it. How's the stability, support, and speed?

I'd also like to know, How Fast are the Internet Connections of the LockerGnome Community?

My quickest connection to the Internet is via Comcast Cable Modem & Wi-Fi Router. My actual speeds are better than advertised.

GOOD LORD?! Full T1 for as low as $249 a month!

Full T1 | Speeds up to 1.5 Mbps

How is this a good deal?

2MB/s down isn't bad for being around farms.

To all those wondering why their speeds may be slower than advertised: 1. It may just be peak time - Your local exchange can only handle so much traffic at one time. 2. The distance from your exchange makes a difference - the closer you are speeds should increase. 3. The type of your connection obviously matters, newer technologies such as fibre optics will obviously provide a better speed. 4. You may be using a firewall/other programs which restrict traffic flow. 5. Using wireless adapters to connect to your router will also slow down your speed somewhat. 6. Try resetting your router to it's default settings and plugging the router/microfilters straight into the (BT) phone socket, and not into anything else before that. 7. If all else fails, ring your ISP - don't pay for something you're not getting or your local exchange can't support, find a better deal! :)

Good info for the newbies! They can also read up on MTU & other Network Settings.

FYI: Ookla is the same speed test engine that many use including Speakeasy & SpeedTest.net

in Greece all adsl lines are supposed to be 24Mbits but u get something between 6 to 10Mbits depending on the distance from each phoneline building.. i am getting 8,7Mbits here no matter what isp this is the result and that is because of the old cables arround.. they have fibre only between cities for the main lines connecting the cities.. no fibre for us but they lie saying the have placed fibre for the civilians

We pay for 25/5. Considering it's 6PM right now, I think it's a pretty good speed result. Speedtest will show 30+mbps on tests during the early morning hours. Overall, very pleased..

I live in Sidney, British Columbia, Canada. I am on one of the lower Shaw plans, and I am getting what I was quoted. The only problem is the Upload speed which is very slow, as you can see.

Those are my results, as you know NYC has only one provider for the Manhattan island, Time Warner. As FiOS grows in size, Manhattan's monopoly hasn't changed..My advertized speeds, 10mb down 2mb up, Close for down, not even close for up.. Sad. I am using a NETGEAR Router WiFi "G" speeds and I'm a good 100 feet from the router, and I'm close to an elevator... So all of that interference is kind of normal, but later on in the night like at 3am I get speeds as fast as 15mb down and 5mb up :) And also I am watching Netflix, Downloading things on Spotify and watching TV on my Cable since this is Time Warner Cable and that might interfere with the speeds, I guess.
