I have been looking for a while at portable hard drives. I would like one that's at least 500 GB. However, I would like to buy one that is unique. For instance, one that is waterproof and shockproof. Something very unique about it that could be useful (or not.) Does anybody know of a portable hard drive that would fit this description?

shock proof is SSD all ready. no moving parts, but shock is not a drop from 15 feet onto cement its a sudden shock or vibration which typical hard drive can not handle well as the head can crash into the platter and ruin the media itself that is either glass with metal embedded or an alloy.

Thinkgeek has a few options, although they're hard drive cases not hard drives themselves --

buy an SSD drive that has a USB port on it (many have one) then run a benchmark on it then while that is going, measure the temperature of the drive, if it remains cool, then seal everything except the connectors with epoxy, (seal the base of the connector with some epoxy (thin layer). You now have a waterproof SSD :). Modding is a good way to make a drive unique.
generally store bought items cant really be unique because by definition radically distinctive and without equal; "he is alone in the field of microbiology"; "this theory is altogether alone in its penetration of the problem"; "Bach was unique in his handling of counterpoint"; "craftsmen whose skill is unequaled"; "unparalleled athletic ability"; "a ...
so while a item can look cool, it is not really unique if the factory is pushing out a few thousand of them a day
